‘Faith in recycling’ at Neeli Mosque

Date published: 21 May 2018

Hundreds of people at Neeli Mosque received recycling bags and information to encourage more recycling in the borough on Friday.

The Council’s Recycling Improvement & Participation Officer, Nigel Goulding attended the open afternoon outside the mosque with colleagues, working with residents and local community representatives to give detailed information about recycling.

Other issues and concerns addressed included missing bins and correct bin sizes.

President of UKIM (UK Islamic Mission), Sikandar Mirza, who was visiting Rochdale, also met with local recycling officers, imams and residents, appreciating their efforts of improving services in the neighbourhood.

He said:  “UKIM has more than 40 centres in the UK and I would be happy to take this idea forward in order to promote recycling.”

Sohail Ahmad, Operations Manager at Deeplish Community Centre said: “We are pleased the success of this engagement and people’s participation in recycling. We believe that engagement with local residents on such matters is very vital.

“We have faith in recycling and are comitted to promoting this action at all levels. We are proud to connect with local community members, faith sector organisatins  and promote social change in partneship with the council’s recycling team.”
