Young film makers to turn their cameras on local communities

Young film makers have the chance to get behind the camera at the Boom! event on 14 February.

Young aspiring film-makers in the Rochdale area aged 16-25 have been invited to participate in a ‘mass’ film-production training event at the Norton Grange hotel on Manchester Road, Castleton on Saturday 14 February.

The event is part of a national volunteering project called BOOM! that encourages young people to connect with and benefit their local community by making films about things they want to change, improve, raise awareness about or simply have a say on.

100 places are ‘up for grabs’ at the event, for which participation is free and no previous film-making experience or knowledge is necessary.

At the event, participants will get hands-on professional tuition in all the fundamental film-production skills they need to get started – from camerawork, sound recording and lighting to directing, presenting and interviewing.

Attendees will then be invited to put their newly-learned skills into practice by making films through their local community youth club – with all films produced ultimately being broadcast online and on-air by MTV UK. Participating youth clubs will also be provided for free with camcorders and the latest Apple film-editing hardware and software to work with.
