“Mummy, I want to make money for children”, said 10-year-old Elysia Crossley

Date published: 30 January 2016

Ten-year-old Elysia Crossley decided to shave off all her hair and donate it to a charity which makes wigs for cancer patients because “they need it more than me”.

Elysia, from Littleborough, sat in front of her entire school at Crossgates Primary School on Friday (29 January) as her long locks fell to the ground – all of which will be sent to the Little Princess Trust.

The kind-hearted little girl also asked her mummy to set up a Just Giving page (see link below) for her so she could raise money for the Francis House Children’s Hospice, saying that she wanted to “make children happy”.

Along with her sponsor forms and donation page, Elysia has managed to raise a whopping £4,000 for the charity.

Proud mum Kirsty Lang said: “It all started when her cousin got ill with alopecia, it upset her to see her lose her hair and she decided she wanted to help. She is quite an independent girl, she told me that she wanted to shave all her hair off and give it to children who need it, including children with cancer as well.

“At first I was stunned and not really sure how to react, but then I thought about it and she just wants to help others, I shouldn’t discourage that.”

Addressing the school crowd, Elysia said: "Today I shaved all of my hair off to raise money for Francis House Children’s Hospice, which is an amazing place that helps a lot of families going through some very difficult times.

“I doing it to raise money but also to raise awareness for children who have lost their hair due to having chemotherapy or alopecia. I want people to see that although I have no hair I am still the person I was with hair and not to treat anybody different because of how they look.

"I am also donating my hair to The Little Princess Trust who will use it to make wigs for children who have lost their hair. Please find it in your hearts to help these children.”
