Liz McInnes gives support to World Cancer Day

Date published: 09 February 2016

Liz McInnes, MP for Heywood and Middleton, met with representatives from four of the UK’s leading cancer charities, who are working together to unite the nation and help transform the lives of millions of people who are affected by cancer, to mark World Cancer Day on 4 February.

Cancer Research UK, Breast Cancer Care, Anthony Nolan and the Movember Foundation are called on people across the country to show their support for the fight against cancer by wearing a unity band with pride. All money raised from the unity bands is going towards the charities’ individual research projects and support services.

Ms McInnes said: "World Cancer Day is a reminder of the devastating effect of cancer on many people, but the fight against cancer goes on all year round."

Collectively the four charities support millions of people every year through their individual work in the prevention, detection, treatment and support of those affected by cancer.

Money raised funds breakthroughs in scientific research, saves and improves the lives of people with blood cancers, provides high quality care, support and information for people with breast cancer, and funds research and support services to tackle prostate and testicular cancer.
