Castleton still suffering with water issues as engineers work on repairs

Date published: 01 April 2016

United Utilities has announced that due to the “complex nature” of the Castleton leak, some parts of the village could remain without water or with poor pressure for more hours to come.
A leak sprung on the intersection of Fox Hill Road and Thornham New Road this morning (1 April). Engineers have been working on repairs since 10.00am, leaving some parts of the area waterless.

United Utilities Tweeted: “Due to the complex nature of the repair to the burst water main at the intersection of Fox Hill Road and Thornham New Road, work will be on-going throughout the course of the afternoon.”

While residents on Fairway are unaffected, resident Steve Sanderson from Lyndhurst Avenue had to buy bottled water from the supermarket.

He said: “I didn’t realise there was a problem until I came to fill the kettle. I got on to United Utilities and found out about the leak. Hopefully they’ll get it sorted sooner rather than later.”

A United Utilities spokesperson said: “In order to help get some water flowing through your taps again our inspector has moved water from a different area into yours whilst we are sorting out the leak. You may find that water doesn’t flow as much as the pressure will be lower.

“We’re sorry for the trouble this may be causing you and we will get your taps flowing normally again as quickly as we can.”
