Wardleworth Youth weekend away
Date published: 18 April 2016
Youth Connections (YC) and Wardleworth Community Centre (WCCA) came together for a three day outdoor residential over the Easter weekend.
20 young people from all over the Rochdale Borough were given the opportunity of a lifetime.
They enjoyed a variety of activities which gave them life skills that will stay with them forever.
Youth Connections volunteer, Nurul Islam also had an experience which he valued thoroughly and stated: “I didn’t think the young people would learn so much. We did activities which helped many of the young people’s confidence and self-esteem. I absolutely loved it, even though I toppled over in canoeing.”
WCCA Youth Worker Dewan Choudhury said: “We’ve done this sort of activity before but this time round it was extra special. With all the negativity in the area, it was refreshing to see young people from Wardleworth enjoying themselves and keeping out of trouble. We hope to replicate this every year with the support of the local community.”
The ethnically mixed group of young people had a blast with enjoyable and educational activities such as zip wire and canoeing and team activities such as capture the flag and low ropes.
The project was funded by Hedley Foundation and Rochdale Township.
