Police have launched a murder investigation after a woman was found dead in a flat in Rochdale.

On arrival police discovered the body of a 44-year-old woman.

She had suffered multiple injuries.

Police arrested a 41-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of murder. He is now being questioned by police.

Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts from GMP said: “This is a tragic situation and my thoughts are with the family and friends of this poor lady. Our specially trained officers are with them and offering our support at this sad time.

“We arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of murder. We are now investigating and trying to get a full understanding of what happened.

“I want to reassure people that GMP are actively working with Rochdale Council, other partner organisations and the community at large to make sure we do all we can to support those most vulnerable in society and that we robustly tackle those who cause them harm."

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact police on 101, or via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
