Police seek man for attempted murder after stabbing

Date published: 07 June 2016

A man was stabbed when he was involved in a confrontation with a man known to him on John Street, Rochdale at around 9:50pm on Sunday (5 June 2016).

The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation and a second man stabbed the victim in the abdomen a number of times before he was able to run away and seek medical attention.

He was admitted to hospital where he underwent six hours of surgery and remains in a serious condition.

Police now want to speak to Kyle Newlands (22/05/1988) in connection with the incident and are appealing for the public’s help to trace him.

Detective Constable Craig Wallace of GMP’s Rochdale Borough said: “We know that an incident such as this is likely to cause some worry within the local area but I would like to stress that we believe this to be a targeted attack with no immediate threat to other members of the public.

“We have identified a man that we wish to speak to in connection with this incident, which is 28-year-old Kyle Newlands.

“If anybody has any information about his whereabouts then I would urge them to please get in touch.

“Given the violent and serious nature of this incident I would urge members of the public not to approach Newlands but contact police immediately.”

Anybody with information should contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
