Liz McInnes vows to hold new Prime Minister's government to account

Date published: 18 July 2016

Liz McInnes, MP for Heywood and Middleton, has said she wishes new Prime Minister Theresa May well, but will continue to hold her government to account.

Ms McInnes said: "For the sake of the country I am glad that the Conservatives have been able to choose a new leader quickly, and I send Theresa May my best wishes as she becomes our second female Prime Minister.

"Our country faces many challenges in the coming months and years. Following the EU referendum campaign and Brexit vote, we are a divided nation.

"The Conservative government, of which Theresa May has for so long been a leading member, has spent six years attacking areas like Heywood and Middleton, cutting essential public services and letting down working people.

"I do not believe that a government led by Mrs May will be any different, and I will continue to hold her government to account and to stand up for people here in Heywood and Middleton."
