Cyclist from Rochdale dies in collision

Jason Hesketh, 32, from Rochdale, died at the scene following a crash with the car on Sunday (17 July).

The incident occurred around 1.15pm when Mr Hesketh, who was cycling towards Hebden Bridge on Keighley Road, and a Vauxhall Zafira travelling in the opposite direction collided between Hebden Bridge and Peckett Well.

Mr Hesketh died at the scene.

Two other male cyclists travelling along Keighley Road with him were uninjured.

A further cyclist collided with a Peugeot Van that had stopped to assist. He was taken to hospital for treatment. The incidents are being investigated separately.

Sergeant Matt Tunney of the Major Collision Enquiry Team said; "I would appeal to anyone who was travelling around the area on Sunday afternoon who may have seen either the cyclists, or the vehicle prior to the incident or anyone who witnessed the collision itself to come forward. Enquiries are ongoing."

An inquest has been opened.
