Vehicles smashed up in mindless rampage at Watergrove

Date published: 26 July 2016

Mindless vandals smashed up parked cars and ripped doors off in a rampage at Watergrove Reservoir.

Cyclists who had parked their cars by the water on Thursday evening (21 July) returned to find their vehicles vandalised, with only a sat-nav taken, despite cash and mobile phones being inside.

Two vans and a pickup truck were among the vehicles targeted violent attack.

Jon Bradshaw was one of the unlucky cyclists who found his car smashed up. He said: “There’s just no reason for this kind of behaviour. It was more about the damage than the thefts, there was a mobile phone and cash that wasn’t even stolen, yet they ripped a door off. Why?”

He added: “The only explanation is that they were kids and were frightened off. We wouldn’t believe it.”

A GMP spokesperson said: “Officers were called at 9.10pm to Ramsden Road in Wardle to reports that a number of vehicles had been damaged. Windows had been smashed, doors had been ripped off, and an item had been stolen from inside one of the vehicles which we believe was a sat-nav.

“Other vehicles were damaged without anything being taken at all.

“We are urging anyone with information to come forward as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
