Wedding cake arrives in one piece before “nightmare” car crash

Date published: 29 July 2016

Cake maker Rebecca Beer has thanked her lucky stars that she had delivered a wedding cake before a nightmare car crash on the way back.

Rebecca, who owns ‘Sweet Things – Cakes by Rebecca’, was involved in a two-car collision at Junction 20 of the M62 coming into Milnrow.

Whilst stood on the hard shoulder following the crash, she saw the second collision, which prompted the police to issue a warning to take extra care at the junction.

Rebecca said she was happy not to have ruined her clients’ wedding with no cake, but is concerned about safety of the junction.

She said: “I was dropping a cake off in Huddersfield, which as you can imagine was very expensive, and was expected at someone’s big day.

“I actually call this my lucky cake now, because it made it in one piece and the car crash happened on the way home.”

She added: “What really shocked me was that as we were standing on the hard shoulder another incident happened. It was literally five minutes after ours. I think people misjudge this junction coming off the motorway and fail to slow down in time.

“Something should be done about it before someone is seriously hurt.”

Greater Manchester Police posted: “M62 J20, two separate two-vehicle RTCs. One in lane three and one in lane two, fortunately no injuries.”

A GMP spokesperson confirmed that officers attended the scene for two incidents on the same junction.
