Six students from Wardle Academy have gained their entry three qualification in Personal and Social Skills after a 13-week placement at Smithybridge Nursery.
The girls spent one afternoon a week at the nursey to pass the qualification, which was presented to them at a ceremony in Manchester.
A spokesperson for Wardle Academy said: “At the nursery, the girls mentored a toddler to improve their behaviour, confidence and social skills. While taking part in the programme, the girls grew in confidence and improved their communications skills with the adults around them.
“Effective communication skills are integral to progression in the workplace. It is an important life skills that enables us to better understand and connect with the people around us. It allows us to build respect and trust, resolve differences and foster environments where problem solving, caring, affection and creative ideas can thrive.”
The girls were presented with their qualification at an event at the National Football Museum, Manchester. Around 200 people attended, including students from Stockport, Bury and Rochdale schools.
Shadow Secretary of State for Education and MP for Ashton-Under-Lyne Angela Rayner was on hand to present the certificates, and gave an inspirational speech about achievement and overcoming obstacles. The Mayor and Mayoress of Stockport also attended.
The spokesperson for Wardle Academy said: “Our girls were the last group up on stage but this didn’t affect the atmosphere, it was still electric with a lot of support being shown for our girls. Congratulations to all of the students involved.”
