Council to spend thousands on updating car park tariff boards and re-programming ticket machines

Rochdale Borough Council is to spend thousands of pounds on updating tariff boards and re-programming ticket machines due to a massive increase in parking charges from £2.80 to £5 for those parking over six hours in the town centre.
Mark Widdup, Director Neighbourhoods at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “The cost of implementing the changes is covered on an annual basis when the council updates the tariff boards and re-programmes the ticket machines.”
Asked exactly how much it will cost, a spokesperson for the Council said: "We don’t yet have a final cost for implementing these changes."
Asked how much it cost the last time there was a change in parking charges, the Council refused to answer saying: "This information is commercially sensitive."
Rochdale Online has now submitted a Freedom of Information request for the amount.
