Liz McInnes statement regarding the Manchester Arena attack

Date published: 23 May 2017

Liz McInnes, Labour candidate for Heywood and Middleton, said: "My thoughts go out to all the victims of this horrendous attack, to those killed and injured, to their friends and families and to those who witnessed and were affected by this atrocity.

"Our police, ambulance and NHS responded brilliantly last night and continue to do so, caring for the injured and helping to find those missing and keep their families informed.

"Any attack of this nature is appalling and an affront to decent society but to target an audience made up primarily of young children and teenagers is cruel in the extreme.

"Manchester has been shaken by this attack but the people are united in their grief and will not let this cowardly attack destroy our proud spirit and our way of life.

"Quite rightly, all political campaigning has been suspended until further notice as a mark of respect."
