The latest budget savings proposals considered by Rochdale Borough Council will now go forward for a 45-day consultation with staff and unions which runs until 5pm on 1 November.

£176 million has already been cut from services over the past eight years. Further savings of £33 million need to be made by 2020 so that a balanced budget can bet set.

As well as services being cut, up to 100 council jobs are at risk.

Councillor Allen Brett, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Corporate & Resources, said: “Unfortunately, the funding we receive from central government has significantly reduced since 2010, while the cost of services and the demand for them has increased.

"That, sadly, means that further tough decisions have to be made as we have no option but to set a balanced budget. We now need our residents’ views on the budget and how we can save money in the future.

"We want to know about any ideas you have that could improve your neighbourhood, save precious funds or if you need support to help improve the lives of those around you.”

Final decisions will be made at Budget Council in February 2018.
