Hollingworth Lake becomes ‘Pink Promenade’ for annual Link4Pink walk

Date published: 18 September 2017

Approximately 100 people completed the annual Pink Promenade sponsored walk on Sunday afternoon (17 September) in aid of breast cancer.

The Mayor, Ian Duckworth, and Mayoress, Christine Duckworth, attended the event at Hollingworth Lake along with the President of Littleborough RUFC, David Rawlinson.

The 2.5-mile walk to raise money for the Victoria Breast Care Unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital started at Littleborough RUFC on Rakewood Road before taking participants around the lake to finish back at the start. Stalls and a raffle were also available.

Chairperson of Link4Pink, Helen Haigh, commented: “It went very well. Sponsorship is still coming in but we’ve raised around £1,500 so far.”

The Link4Pink appeal was created in 2008 to benefit patients attending the Victoria Breast Unit. Its first project was to raise money to build a £160,000 conservatory extension to the unit.

In May 2011, following three years of successful fundraising by Link4Pink and with the support of the local community, the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust which runs The Royal Oldham Hospital, opened the newly built facility.

Link4Pink also offers support guidance and treatment for men and women going through breast cancer diagnosis and treatment and other breast conditions.
