Automatic gatelines are coming to Rochdale

Date published: 17 October 2017

Northern is introducing automatic gatelines at Rochdale - the new machinery will be fully installed by the middle of November.

The automatic gatelines are designed to help reduce the number of customers travelling without a ticket and discourage anti-social behaviour.

Liam Sumpter, Regional Director at Northern, said: “Automatic gatelines are an integral part of our ongoing modernisation programme that will transform stations across the Northern network.

“Ticket gates provide added safety and security by ensuring those at platforms are genuine rail travellers, they also streamline ticket checks meaning Northern customers are able to move through stations more quickly and efficiently. They also help reduce the number of customers travelling without a ticket and discourage anti-social behaviour.”
