Rochdale Interchange shortlisted for BBC’s Building of the Decade

Date published: 16 April 2018

The Rochdale Interchange has been shortlisted as one of five in Greater Manchester for the BBC’s People’s Choice Building of the Decade competition.

BBC North West Tonight is asking its viewers to vote for their favourite modern building constructed in the last 10-years. North West Tonight, in partnership with the business magazine 'Insider Media', is launching an online vote for 'People's Choice - North West Building of the Decade'.

The competition was first run in 2007 when the Grandstand at Aintree Racecourse won the coveted title.

25 unique and eye-catching buildings have been shortlisted for the title this year, including the upgraded Rochdale bus station, the newly-furbished town hall in Oldham, Maggie’s at the Christie and the Whitworth Gallery Extension.

The first region to showcase its entries on North West Tonight at 6.30pm on Monday 16 April is Greater Manchester, followed on consecutive nights by Merseyside, Lancashire, Cheshire and North Derbyshire, with the week's final vote in Cumbria and the Isle of Man on Friday, 20 April.

The vote will close at noon on the following day.

Each night viewers can pick their favourite building from the five nominations in that region in an online vote on the BBC North West Tonight website. A special report about the winner of the Greater Manchester vote will air on North West Tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm on Monday 23 April.

The vote for the final will open on Friday 27 April at 6.30pm, and close at 6.30pm on Thursday 3 May.

The winner will be announced at the North West Property Awards organised by Insider Media on Thursday, 17 May.
