Flags fly high across borough's green spaces and parks

Rochdale Borough's award-winning parks new green flags have been raised.

The borough's green flags are among a record-breaking 1,883 UK parks and green spaces that received a Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.

Denehurst Park and Middleton Memorial Gardens gained Green Flag awards on their first submission.

Retaining Green Flag statuses are Milnrow Memorial Park, Hare Hill Park, Jubilee Park, Boarshaw Cemetery, Truffet Park, Hopwood Park, Queen’s Park and Rochdale town centre parks which includes Broadfield Park, Rochdale Memorial Gardens and Packer Sprout and St Chad’s Gardens.

A Keep Britain Tidy initiative, the Green Flag Awards are handed to parks and green parks which meet the gold standard in a range of categories including facilities, management and community involvement. 

This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

In order to qualify, parks and green spaces must be freely accessible to the public and pay attention to sustainability, conservation and heritage.
