A teenager from Milnrow wowed Britain’s Got Talent judges during auditions on Saturday (18 May) with his magic act, after seemingly sawing judge Amanda Holden in half.
During Saturday’s audition, Dan Rhodes, 15, introduced his act, saying: “Now what I’m about to do is a trick that I actually invented myself. I never had the budget to do an amazing illusion, so I decided to make one myself.”
Using his homemade box, Dan asked judge Amanda to climb inside.
“This is a box I’ve made myself; you’ll be fine,” he assured her before producing his ‘magic wand’ – an electric power saw.
Fellow judge Simon Cowell then pressed his red buzzer, met with boos from the crowd.
Undeterred, Dan proceeded to saw the box down the middle, across Amanda’s torso.
Removing the saw Dan said: “If this has worked, your judge, Amanda, should now be completely sawn in half.”
He then flipped the box into two separate parts, where it appeared Amanda had been completely sawn in two.
Amanda then wiggled her legs before Dan pretended to staple her back together and emerged from the box in one piece.
He was given a clean sweep of approval from the four judges, with Simon taking back his buzzer.
Simon admitted: “I take the X back. I thought if I buzzed in, things would go wrong, but they didn’t. It did surprise me at the end. Well done.”
