Volunteers recognised at Deeplish Community Centre

More than 50 volunteers attended an award and celebration evening at Deeplish Community Centre on Saturday 15 June.

Mayor Billy Sheerin opened the volunteer’s event by welcoming everyone and recognising the value of voluntary sector and role of volunteers.

Mayor Sheerin said: “I appreciate the efforts made by each volunteer in supporting projects and people at Deeplish Community Centre and I am delighted to present awards and certificates to volunteers from all projects.

“The community volunteers are an asset in supporting and helping community projects.”

Deeplish Community Centre organised the volunteers event to mark the volunteer’s action and work carried out by volunteers throughout the year with various projects and programmes at Deeplish Community centre.

Tony Lloyd MP said: “I thank the community volunteers, Talk English volunteers, Preschool and play scheme volunteers in supporting people and the community to stay active and participate in various learning and wellbeing activities.”

Leader of the council, Allen Brett also spoke with volunteers and appreciated their efforts in playing important role to deliver different projects throughout the year from Deeplish CC.

Councillor Mohammed Zaman, former Mayor said: “I am positive that regardless of funding and resources, Deeplish volunteers will deliver excellent programmes and opportunities to local community.

“Volunteers are an asset, they learn new skills, get involved and develop their experience and skills.

“Deeplish Community Centre is a thriving place to welcome and support volunteering and voluntary work.

“I am really proud to see so many success stories and good work throughout years delivered by dedicated volunteers.”

Sohail Ahmad, Operations Manager from Deeplish Community Centre said: “We are always grateful for the volunteer’s efforts in supporting many projects at Deeplish Community Centre.

“We welcome and value all our volunteers and appreciate their time and dedication to support people.

“We are pleased to see how Talk English volunteers are supporting people to learn skills for life. It’s empowering to support people to learn new skills, develop and progress in their life objectives.

“We are thankful to the youth volunteers who give time to run and support the playscheme for children and young people.

“It’s a really exciting project which offers many children and young people a platform to come together and participate in sports, arts and physical activities.

“This event was to recognise and appreciates the incomparable difference all volunteers make in the lives of so many children, young people and elderly.

“Action Together supported the event to mark the volunteer’s dedication and bring all volunteers together to see how their hard work impacted people’s lives and bring change at grass root level.”
