Hundreds of people once again lined the streets on Saturday (22 June 2019) for the 51st Milnrow & Newhey Districts Community Carnival.

The parade, which began in Newhey at 1.00pm, involved 22 local groups, schools and businesses who had floats or walked with the procession, collecting donations for Springhill Hospice and Rochdale Heartbeat.

The carnival had a movie theme this year, with many recognisable characters from the screen brought to life, including Mary Poppins, The Incredibles family, Alice in Wonderland and Marvels Avengers.

Milnrow Brass Band fronted the parade, followed by the Deputy Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Aasim Rashid, his wife Deputy Mayoress Rifit Rashid and councillor for Milnrow and Newhey, Andy Kelly.

The carnival went from Newhey, through Milnrow village and finished at Milnrow Memorial Park where live music from New Identity - a five-piece pop party band – was on offer, as well as a funfair for all ages, paintball, crazy golf, face painting and glitter hair stalls to name but a few. Children’s clothing, accessories and handbags were also available to purchase on various stalls.

Mrs Barber’s Baker provided food and Kaizen-Do Karate held exciting demonstrations and board breaking throughout the day at the park. Sensei’s delivered mini taster sessions for all who wanted to take part.
