During the Remembrance Sunday poppy projects, students crafted handmade poppies with personal messages of remembrance. The poppies were put on public display following the event.

Each school received a cheque of £150 towards school funds.

Mr Harris said: “I would like to thank the people of Heywood and all Heywood Veterans Association members for their effort, time and hard work which has made Heywood a very proud and humble town.

“A very special thanks goes to the pupils and staff of Harwood Park and Heap Bridge for their poppy projects and moving personal messages which were all displayed on the front-surrounding fence of Heywood Memorial Gardens.

“They received very positive comments from the community.”
