Commemorative poppy door bows raise £300 for Royal British Legion

Commemorative poppy door bows have raised over £300 for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal this year.

Claire Rea, of Forget Me Not balloon and party shop in Castleton, created and fit 62 of the special red cross and poppy door bows, raising £310 for the appeal.

The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion's biggest fundraising campaign held every year in November, during the period of Remembrance. The charity provides lifelong support to serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.

After being asked if she could create Remembrance Sunday door bows, Claire decided to create them at a cost of £10 – a £5 donation to the Royal British Legion, and covering the costs of material.

She said: “It feels wrong to earn money off the back of something so special. £5 from each goes to the Royal British Legion and the rest is literally just to cover the cost of material. My time, travel and fuel is nothing compared to what these soldiers went through.

“A massive thank you to everyone who had a Remembrance Day poppy door bow; it's very much appreciated and I'm sure you all agree it was a worthy cause.”
