Information on current and forthcoming roadworks planned to take place across the borough, including for Remembrance Sunday memorial services and parades.

Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to hold the Remembrance Day memorial service and parade.

Expected start and finish:

  • The closure of Yorkshire Street, South Parade, Packer Street, Baillie Street and Constantine Road in the town centre will be operative from 10am - 12.30pm on Sunday 14 November 2021.
  • The closure of The Esplanade will be operative from 6am - 2pm on Sunday 14 November 2021.
  • The prohibition of waiting will be operative from 12.01am - 2pm on Sunday 14 November 2021.

Restriction and location: temporary closure and prohibition of waiting at any time along the following roads:

  • The Esplanade, for its entire length.
  • South Parade, from its junction with The Esplanade to its junction with Yorkshire Street.
  • Yorkshire Street, from its junction with South Parade to its junction with Baillie Street.
  • Baillie Street, for its entire length.
  • Constantine Road, for its entire length.
  • South Parade, from its junction with Constantine Road to its junction with The Esplanade.

Alternative routes: the alternative route for vehicles on The Esplanade will be Newgate, St Mary's Gate and The Esplanade. Due to the nature and duration of the parade, it isn't necessary for any other alternate routes to be in place.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to hold the Remembrance Day memorial service.

Expected start and finish: 7am - 2pm on Sunday 14 November 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Woodhouse Lane from its junction with Shawfield Lane for a distance of 45 metres in a north westerly direction.
Alternative routes: Shawfield Lane, Edenfield Road and Woodhouse Lane.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to promote social distancing measures due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Expected finish: Sunday 2 January 2022, or until such measures are deemed unnecessary.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Packer Street, from its junction with South Parade.
Alternative route: The Esplanade, Manchester Road, Drake Street, School Lane and Church Lane.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to enable an archaeological dig to take place.

Expected start and finish: 1 July 2021 - 31 January 2022.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Packer Street, from its junction with South Parade up to and including its junction with Nelson Street. And temporary closure of Fleece Street, from its junction with King Street to its junction with Packer Street.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to install traffic calming measures and reline the road as a one-way system.

Expected start and finish: Monday 8 November - Friday 19 November 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure and prohibition of waiting along Kent Street, for its entire length.
Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles will be signed on site.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to install a new sewer connection in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 8am on Monday 15 November - 4.30pm, Saturday 27 November 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary one-way closure of Aldwych from the junction with The Strand to a point 70 metres in a westerly direction only. Vehicles travelling in an easterly direction will not be affected.
Alternative routes: Kirkway, Mornington Road and Balderstone Road.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to repair the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 12.01am on Monday 15 November 2021 - 4.30pm, Tuesday 23 August 2022.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of Dell Road to vehicles, from a point 305 metres from its junction with Shawclough Road for a distance of 330 metres in a north westerly direction.
  • Temporary closure of Dell Road to vehicles and pedestrians from a point 485 metres from its junction with Shawclough Road for a distance of 364 metres in a north westerly direction.
  • Temporary suspension of parking at any time along Dell Road from its junction with Shawclough Road for a distance of 297 metres in a westerly direction.

Alternative routes: Market Street, Shawclough Road and Dell Road.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to resurface the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 7.30am - 5.30pm each day from Monday 15 November - Sunday 19 December 2021.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of Hill Top Drive, from its junction with Balderstone Road for a distance of 1,362 metres in a southerly direction.
  • Temporary prohibition of waiting at any time on both sides of Hill Top Drive, from its junction with Balderstone Road to its junction with Ruskin Road.

Alternative routes: the alternative route for vehicles will be signed on site when the restrictions are in place.

Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Middleton
Reason: to hold the Middleton Remembrance Sunday Parade.

Expected start and finish: 10am - 12noon on Sunday 14 November 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of the following roads:

  • Park Road, for its entire length.
  • Long Street, from its junction with the Assheton Way/Eastway/Long Street/Market Street roundabout to its junction with Manchester New Road.
  • Manchester New Road, from its junction with Long Street to its junction with the Middleton Way/Oldham Road roundabout.
  • The Middleton Way/Oldham Road roundabout, for its entire circumference.
  • Middleton Way, both sides for its entire length.
  • Manchester Old Road/Middleton Way roundabout, for its entire circumference.
  • Manchester Old Road, from the Manchester Old Road/Middleton Way roundabout to the Garden of Remembrance.

Alternative route: due to the nature and duration of the event, it is not necessary for alternative routes to be in place.

Area: Middleton
Reason: to use the area as coach parking for the Safe Drive Stay Alive event.

Expected start and finish: 8am - 6pm, Monday 15 November - Wednesday 17 November 2021.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary no waiting at any time along Lance Corporal Joel Halliwell VC Way on the south westerly side from a point 54 metres south east of a point opposite the south easterly kerb line of Old Hall Street for a distance of 52 metres in a south easterly direction.
  • Suspend part of the Borough of Rochdale (Civil Enforcement of Traffic Contraventions) (Various Streets) (Middleton Township) Order 2008) (Amendment) (No.43) Order 2017 - Waiting Limited, 2 Hours, No Return Within 1 Hour - LCpl Joel Halliwell V.C. Way, North Middleton Ward south westerly side from a point 54 metres south east of a point opposite the south easterly kerb line of Old Hall Street for a distance of 52 metres in a south easterly direction.

Alternative route: not applicable.

Reason: to repair a defective frame and cover in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 7pm - 10pm on Tuesday 16 November 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Market Place, from a point 79 metres west of its junction with Townley Street for a distance of 20 metres in a westerly direction, outside 48 Market Place.
Alternative routes: Market Place, Long Street, Assheton Way, Oldham Road and Townley Street.

Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Heywood
Reason: to hold the Heywood Remembrance Sunday Parade.

Expected start and finish:

  • The prohibition of waiting will be operative from 6am - 12noon on Sunday 14 November 2021.
  • The road closure will be operative from 10am - 12noon on Sunday 14 November 2021.

Restrictions and locations:

  • Temporary closure of Tower Street, from its junction with School Street to its junction with Brunswick Street.
  • Temporary closure of St James Street, for its entire length.
  • Temporary closure of Bridge Street, from its junction with St James Street to its junction with Market Street.
  • Temporary closure of Market Street, for its entire length.
  • Temporary closure of Market Place, from its junction with Market Street to its junction with L/Cpl Stephen Shaw MC Way.
  • Temporary closure of L/Cpl Stephen Shaw MC Way, for its entire length.
  • Temporary closure of Hind Hill Street, from its junction with Market Place and L/Cpl Stephen Shaw MC Way to its junction with Pine Street.
  • Temporary closure of Pine Street, for its entire length.
  • Temporary closure of Hornby Street, from its junction with Pine Street to its junction with Church Street.
  • Temporary closure of Church Street, from its junction with Hornby Street to its junction with L/Cpl Stephen Shaw MC Way.
  • Temporary closure of York Street, from its junction with Queens Park Road to its junction with Market Place.

Reason: to repair a damaged sewer in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 8am, Friday 22 October - 8am, Thursday 11 November 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Adelaide Street, from a point 30 metres west of its junction with Queens Park Road for a distance of 22 metres in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: Queens Park Road, Longford Street and Queen Street.

Area: Heywood
Reason: to replace a defective frame and cover in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 9.30am - 3pm on Tuesday 16 November 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Victory Way, from a point 17 metres west of its junction with Rose Hill Street for a distance of 25 metres in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: there is no alternative route for vehicles.

Area: Heywood
Reason: to resurface the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 7.30am, Friday 22 October - 5.30pm, Friday 17 December 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of West Starkey Street, for its entire length.
Alternative routes:

  • For vehicles wishing to access Bank Top Street, the alternative route will be Bamford Road, Market Street (A58), Bridge Street (A58) Peel Street and Cherwell Avenue.
  • For vehicles wishing to access Bamford Road, the alternative route will be Bank Top Street, Cherwell Avenue, Peel Street, Bridge Street (A58) and Dawson Street (A58).

Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Pennines
Reason: to hold the Wardle Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade.

Expected start and finish: 1.30pm - 4pm on Sunday 14 November 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of the following roads:

  • Ramsden Road, from its junction with Wardle Fold to its junction with Wardle Road.
  • Wardle Road, from its junction with Ramsden Road to its junction with Kings Grove. 

Alternative route:

  • The closure of Ramsden Road will be a rolling closure from Wardle Fold to Birch Road, therefore it isn't necessary for alternative routes to be in place.
  • The alternative route for the closure of Wardle Road is Ramsden Road, Birch Road and Halifax Road.

Area: Pennines
Reason: to hold the Milnrow Remembrance Parade.

Expected start and finish: 10am - 12noon on Sunday 14 November 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of the following roads:

  • Harmony Street, from its junction with Moorland Avenue to its junction with Cornfield Street.
  • Cornfield Street, from its junction with Harmony Street to its junction with Dale Street.
  • Dale Street, from its junction with Cornfield Street to its junction with Newhey Road.
  • Newhey Road, from its junction with Dale Street to its junction with the entrance to the John Milne Public House.

Alternative route: due to the nature and duration of the event, it isn't necessary for alternative routes to be in place.

Area: Pennines
Reason: to hold the Littleborough Remembrance Sunday Service and parade.

Expected start and finish:

  • The temporary road closures will be operative from 10am - 12.30pm on Sunday 14 November 2021.
  • The temporary prohibition of waiting will be operative from 8am - 12.30pm on Sunday 14 November 2021.

Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:

  • Hare Hill Road, from its junction with Lyndale Drive to its junction with Church Street.
  • Church Street, from its junction with Hare Hill Road to its junction with Todmorden Road.
  • Station Road, from its junction with Church Street to its junction with Railway Street.
  • Peel Street, from its junction with Station Road to its junction with Morgan Street. 

Temporary prohibition of waiting at any time along:

  • Both sides of Station Road, from its junction with Church Street to its junction with Railway Street.
  • Both sides of Peel Street, from its junction with Station Road to its junction with Morgan Street.
  • The north side of Church Street, from a point 28 metres east of its junction with Hare Hill Road for a distance of 12 metres in an easterly direction.
  • Both sides of Hare Hill Road, from its junction with Lyndale Drive, for a distance of 125 metres in a south easterly direction.

Alternative route: due to the nature and duration of the event, it isn't necessary for alternative routes to be in place.
