9-year-old group of friends raise £1,000 for Children in Need with ‘Loop de Loop’ of Norden

Three friends, all aged 9, completed a ‘Loop de Loop’ of Norden on Sunday (14 November) to help raise money for Children in Need.

After watching an advert on TV on Monday 8 November, Harry Spencer decided that he wanted to do something for Children in Need this year.

With the recruitment of his friends, Archie Brown and Mason Bradburn, who all attend Norden Community Primary School, the boys challenged themselves to a sponsored ‘Loop de Loop’ from the corner of Keepers Drive and Shawfield Lane in Norden, up the public footpath into the fields and then back down to Keepers Drive, completing as many laps as they could between 10am and 2pm.

Harry also wanted to make sure that at 11am they went to Norden Cenotaph to pay their respects for Remembrance Sunday.

 

 

At 10am on a very fresh and bright Sunday morning (14 November), Harry and Archie set off, and after four laps the third member Mason arrived and carried on the effort with them.

Family members, friends and dog walkers alike also joined the trio for a loop or two along the way.

The boys had covered a massive 16 laps by the finishing time at 2pm.

To date, they have raised (with gift aid) over £1,000 for Children in Need.

Corinne Brown, Archie’s mum, said: “The boys smashed it for Children in Need! 48 loops between them (each loop just short of 1km), meaning they covered a massive 28.5 miles altogether. A fantastic achievement for 9-year-old boys.

“With family and friends joining them for a few loops each, a staggering 60 loops were completed in total by the whole clan.

“Thank you to all for your donations to Children in Need and thank you to Kate Spencer for getting us organised and for the refreshments.

“As parents we are so proud of the boys’ efforts, and they are already starting to plan how to make it a bigger and better event next year!”

BBC Children in Need currently funds over 2,500 charities and projects across the UK, including in the Rochdale borough, supporting children and young people to thrive and be the best they can be.
