Christmas cards from St James' distributed to tackle loneliness

Date published: 24 December 2021

Pupils at St James’ CofE Primary School in Wardle have made over 150 Christmas cards which have been distributed across the Rochdale borough.

The cards have been distributed by Rochdale Boroughwide Housing to local care homes and sheltered accommodation, as part of the ‘Classroom to Care Home’ project.

Year 6 teaching assistant Kelly Cawley said: “The children took part last year and it was such an amazing success that they have decided to do it again this year.

“The cards have been distributed across the borough in an effort to combat some of the loneliness suffered by people during the pandemic.”

The pupils at St James’ all kept in regular touch with their older neighbours during the pandemic lockdowns – sending cards, NHS pictures, Remembrance Sunday pictures, Christmas cards, and Easter cards to make sure that residents knew that people in the community were thinking about them.
