Platinum Jubilee afternoon tea enjoyed at Butterworth Hall

Date published: 10 June 2022

A special afternoon tea for the elderly was held at Butterworth Hall community centre in Milnrow on Friday 3 June.

Commemorating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the party was held for older village residents who live alone. Guests played bingo and participated in a raffle before a toast to the Queen.

The afternoon – hosted by volunteers from Villages Unite for Milnrow and Newhey – was enjoyed by all with 52 attendees, all personally invited by Chairman of Villages Unite Chariss Peacock.

Chariss said the day was “absolutely fab.”

Villages Unite was started around eight years ago and is a community-run group which provides events for the over 55s. It originally started as a Christmas party and has five main members on the committee.

It hosts several events throughout the year for the over 55s in Milnrow and Newhey.
