Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To make improvements to the Bury Road and Sandy Lane junction.

Expected start and finish:

  • Monday 19 February 2024 – Monday 13 May 2024.
  • The 4-way traffic signals will only be used from 7am – 7pm, Mondays – Fridays when necessary between these dates.

Restriction and location:
Temporary single phase 4-way signals at the junction of Bury Road and Sandy Lane. The scheme involves:

  • Upgrading of the traffic signal ducting/chambers to allow the replacement of the traffic signal installation. The new signals will include controlled pedestrian/cyclist crossings.
  • Re-alignment of the kerb lines on all approaches and change of lane designation on Roch Valley Way to improve traffic flow and safety for vehicle movements.
  • Resurfacing of footways and carriageway and new road markings to tie-in on all approaches.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface a section of Greenbank Road.

Expected start and finish: Thursday 28 March 2024 – Sunday 14 April 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Greenbank Road. This will start from the junction with Rossall Road and continue for 172 metres in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be signed onsite.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface a section of Shawfield Lane.

Expected start and finish: Tuesday 2 April 2024 – Tuesday 9 April 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of part of Shawfield Lane. This will start from its junction with Edenfield Road and continue to a point 205 metres in a north easterly direction.
  • Residential access will be maintained.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Keepers Drive, Seven Acres Lane, Knowl Hill Drive and Woodhouse Lane.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To maintain the free flow of traffic along Bolton Road when Eid prayers are being held.

Expected start and finish: 7am – 11am each day, Tuesday 9 April 2024 – Thursday 11 April 2024.
Restriction and location: Prohibition of parking along both sides of a stretch of Bolton Road. This will begin from its junction with Marland Fold and continue for a distance of 150 metres in a south westerly direction.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To hold the Tour de Manc 2024 cycling event - Ashworth Road.

Expected start and finish: 10am – 6pm, Sunday 5 May 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary one-way working along a part of Ashworth Road. Vehicles won't be permitted to travel in a northerly direction between the junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Edenfield Road.
  • Vehicles won't be allowed to turn right onto Ashworth Road from Bury and Rochdale Old Road, Chapel Lane and School Lane while this order is active.
  • Vehicles won't be allowed to turn left onto Ashworth Road from Bury and Rochdale Old Road while this order is active.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Bury and Rochdale Old Road, Norden Road, Bagslate Moor Road, Moorland Avenue, Edenfield Road and Ashworth Road.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To provide safe parking for the installation of a new telecoms pole on Oulder Hill.

Expected start and finish: Thursday 9 May 2024 – Friday 10 May 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary prohibition of waiting and closure at any time along a stretch of Oulder Hill. This will start from its junction with Fieldhead Avenue and continue for 30 metres in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Fieldhead Avenue, Bury Road and Oulder Hill Drive.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install gas mains in the road - Colne Street.

Expected start and finish: 8am, Monday 13 May 2024 – 5pm Tuesday 28 May 2024
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of part of Colne Street. This will start at its junction with Albion Street and continue for 10 metres in a southerly direction.
  • Temporary prohibition of waiting at any time along parts of Colne Street and Albion Street. This will start from the junction with Melville Street and continue for 30 metres in an easterly direction.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Hillcrest Road, Queensway and Albion Street.

Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Middleton
Reason: To repair high voltage cables in the road - Townley Street.

Expected start and finish: Monday 25 March 2024 – Monday 15 April 2024 or when works are completed if sooner.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Townley Street. This will start from its junction with Victoria Street to its junction with Langton Street.
Alternative route: The alternative route for traffic is Townley Street, Oldham Road, Manchester New Road, Rochdale Road, Victoria Avenue East, Greengate and Grimshaw Lane.

Area: Middleton
Reason: To replace a defective frame and cover in the road - Oldham Road.

Expected start and finish: 9pm – 11.59pm, Tuesday 30 April 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary one-way working along a section of Oldham Road. This will be from the roundabout at Assheton Way, Oldham Road and Ashton Lane to its junction with the roundabout at Manchester New Road, Middleton Way, Park Road and Oldham Road. While this order is active, vehicles won't be allowed to travel in a north easterly direction between these points.
  • Vehicles won't be allowed to turn left from the roundabout at Manchester New Road, Middleton Way, Park Road and Oldham Road.
  • Temporary closure of the unnamed road between Park Road and Oldham Road, from a point 18 metres south of its junction with Park Road to its junction with Oldham Road.

Alternative route: The alternative route for traffic travelling in an easterly direction along Middleton Way and wanting to continue along Oldham Road is Manchester New Road, Middleton Way, Manchester Old Road, Limetrees Road, Factory Street, Wood Street, Eastway, Long Street, Assheton Way and Oldham Road.

Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Heywood
Reason: To repair a leaking water main in the road - School Lane.

Expected start and finish: Wednesday 27 March 2024 – Wednesday 17 April 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of School Lane. This will start from its junctions with The Rake and Lower Jowkin Lane and continue for 50 metres in a north westerly direction.

Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair a leaking water main in the road - Silver Hill.

Expected start and finish: Wednesday 10 April 2024 – Friday 12 April 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Silver Hill. This will start at its junction with Kiln Lane and run for 20 metres in a north westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Kiln Lane, Wildhouse Lane, Croft Head Drive and Silver Hill.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair a leaking water main in the road - Finance Street.

Expected start and finish: Saturday 13 April 2024 – Sunday 14 April 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Finance Street. This will start from its junction with New Road and continue to a point 15 metres away in a north westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be New Road, Watling Street, James Street and Finance Street.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To resurface a section of Clough Road.

Expected start and finish: 8am – 6pm each day, Monday 22 April 2024 – Monday 13 May 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of part of Clough Road. This will begin at its junction with Calderbrook Road and continue to a point 15 metres away in a north westerly direction.
  • Access will be maintained when safe to do so.

Alternative route: There is no alternative diversion route.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To run tests on the level crossing at Smithy Bridge

Expected start and finish: 1am–8am, Sunday 5 May 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Smithy Bridge Road. This will start at a point 15 metres north west of the level crossing and continue for a distance of 40 metres in a south easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Smithy Bridge Road, Milnrow Road, Wildhouse Lane, Kiln Lane, Bridge Street, Rochdale Road, Milnrow Road, Albert Royds Street, Halifax Road and Smithy Bridge Road.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To replace an old lead supply with a new water connection - Ashfield Lane

Expected start and finish: 8am, Wednesday 8 May 2024 – 4pm, Friday 10 May 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Ashfield Lane. This will start from a point outside 6 Ashfield Lane and continue to a point 15 metres away in a north easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for traffic will be Cartmel Avenue, Egremont Road, Beechfield Road, Harbour Lane and Ashfield Lane.
