Date published: 14 June 2007

BBC Radio 4's You and Yours programme reported on the latest Spodden Valley news that Countryside Properties PLC has pulled out of the controversial Spodden Valley planning application to build 600 homes on the former Turner amp; Newall asbestos factory site. Jason Addy, of the Save Spodden Valley campaign, was the guest on the feature and he aired his views on Countryside's decision to pull out.

Shari Vahl from the You and Yours programme reported that: "One of the country’s largest development companies has pulled out of a plan to build houses on the site of what was the biggest asbestos factory in the world. It's a case that highlights the complexity, and cost, of cleaning up contaminated land for development."

You and Yours has been reporting on Countryside Properties plans to build 600 houses on the site of the Turner Brothers asbestos factory in Rochdale for two and a half years. The development has been criticised by local campaigners, Rochdale Council and the advertising standards authority, and now Countryside properties has pulled out of the deal.
