Countryside Properties flyposting confirmed

Date published: 06 June 2007

Rochdale Council have confirmed that property development company Countryside Properties were forced to pay fixed penalty fines of £75 for each of three flyposting offences that took place in March 2006 and March 2007 on Manchester Road and May 2007 on Edinburgh Way.

The issue was raised during the Open Forum of the Rochdale Township meeting on 23 May when Save Spodden Valley spokesman Jason Addy enquired whether or not Countryside Properties had been fined for the offences. Mr Addy received a written response from a council officer that read: “As was reported at Rochdale Township, in the case of Countryside Properties, the flyposted signs were removed by enforcement officers and fixed penalty notices were issued to the company. In the event of further offences, prosecution for the offence would be considered.”

Save Spodden Valley acknowledged the action taken. A spokesperson said: "Countryside Properties has a huge advertising budget and prides itself on its ethical behaviour. It is astonishing that they are repeat offenders of illegal flyposting on some of the busiest roads of Rochdale.

"Flagrant and repeated breaches of the law doesn't bode well for a company that wants to build hundreds of homes and a children's nursery on the world's largest asbestos factory. Health amp; Safety laws need to be enforced vigorously whatever happens in the Spodden Valley - at present, Countryside Properties isn't developing a good track record in Rochdale.”
