60 mile bike ride for Christies

Date published: 06 July 2010

Two ‘Save Spodden Valley’ campaigners are recovering after cycling from Manchester to Blackpool in support of Christies.

Jason Addy and Tim Flynn completed the 60 mile trip from Old Trafford football ground to the Mirror Ball on the South Promenade on Sunday (4 July) along with a host of other riders.

The annual event is very popular and last year attracted over 2,000 cyclists to pull on their royal blue t-shirts in support of the cause.

Jason spoke of the importance of raising awareness and his admiration for Christies: “Occupational cancer is a hugely underestimated issue. Christies are doing wonderful work regarding treatment and research for a variety of cancers.

“This has personally touched family and friends. It was wonderful to be part of the many thousands of cyclists doing their bit for such a good cause.”

Jason added: “My friend Tim Flynn did really well. It was certainly the furthest he had ever cycled. He battled through the headwind and showers with real determination.”

This isn’t the first time Jason has donned his bike helmet for charity though: “It was good to dust the bike down after last year's breathtaking journey criss-crossing Britain for over a thousand miles to raise awareness about the diseases and injustices caused by asbestos.”
