Feel Good Festival filled with happiness

Date published: 14 August 2010

People from Rochdale and further afield enjoyed a wonderful day in the sun today (Saturday 14 August 2010) for this year’s Feel Good Festival – one reveller said the festival made her feel “happy.”

The festival was a fabulous hit with the people of Rochdale, giving them something positive to talk about and lots of activities to take part in.

Bands on the main stage ran from 4pm until around 9.30pm and included the band of the 90s the Lightning Seeds.

Aside from the main stage several fringe venues across Rochdale played host to many talented musicians – which saw our singing Mayor, Keith Swift, take to the stage.

Of course the festival isn’t just about music, it is about food as well and there was certainly plenty of food on offer to tickle your taste buds and if you didn’t want a bite to eat whilst in town there were lots of delicious food items to buy from the food market to take home for later.

Celebrity chefs, Aazam Ahmad, Gino D’Acampo and Rochdale’s very own Andrew Nutter treated packed out tenets to their tricks of the trade.

Aside from the food and the music there was plenty of street entertainment to keep the whole family happy.

Local company Skylight Circus Arts wowed the crowds with their amazing circus skills on South Parade including  unicyclists, stilt balloonists, magicians, dancers and aerial acts to entertain and delight, as well as workshops where for the public to get involved with.

Fair ground rounds also proved a hit with children visiting the town with their families.

Rochdale Online reporter Laura Wild asked people at the festival what they thought about it.

Rachael Jones said: “If I could sum up the festival and how it made me feel I would say happy – there aren’t any fed up people here, everyone is smiling and making the most of a great day.”

Kirsty Gill who was there with friends said: “It is so great to have something like this in Rochdale. I have had so much fun and the weather has definitely helped!”

Richard Partington was at the festival with his family he said: “I have never been before but I will come again next year. What a great thing to have in Rochdale. People forget what a great little town we have here, look around it is so beautiful with beautiful buildings and more people should come here and see what is on offer.”

Tom Davis added: “Good food, good music, good company, and good weather – what more could anybody want?”
