Euro MP urges people to "wear a poppy with pride"

Date published: 02 November 2010

Euro MP Paul Nuttall is urging people to buy poppies for the forthcoming Remembrance Sunday.

"This is a cause that has always been close to my heart and I know many many people feel the same way," said Mr Nuttall.

"The terrible conflict continues in Afghanistan with the every increasing price being paid by our young soldiers and on top of this we have now had the drastic defence spending review.

"Our brave servicemen and women who are prepared day after day to lay down their lives for the rest of us deserve to to know that the public back them to the hilt support them even if it appears the government does not," said Mr Nuttall, UKIP MEP for Rochdale.

"It is a tragedy that there is such a continuing need for funds for the British Legion to help victims and their families but that is the reality of the situation and we owe them a debt of gratitude. We should all wear a poppy with pride," he added
