£10,000 for town centre

Rochdale is to get a package of support for the town centre under a new Town Team Partners scheme announced by the Government.
The Town Team Partnership programme, funded by the Department of Communities and Local Government, is being launched following the Government’s retail review by Mary Portas.
The scheme offers support from the Association of Town Centre Management to the 392 town teams that did not win Portas Pilot status along with £10,000 for each town team.
Commenting on the initiative, Simon Danczuk MP said: “Rochdale needs a stronger town centre offer. It’s critical to improving our economy and attracting investment and skilled workers. So any support for our high street is to be welcomed.
“This is not a huge amount of money but we’re going to work hard to get as much value for the taxpayer as possible, and that’s why we’re looking at using it for street theatre and to create a mobile app for the town centre to support businesses and promote Rochdale.”
