Family of Callum Hilton pay tribute

Date published: 04 November 2012

The 16-year-old boy from the Middleton area fatally injured in a fail-to-stop collision in Bury has been named as Callum Hilton.

Callum's grandad, Graham Hilton, said: "We are absolutely devastated at this time at the tragic loss of Callum, our beloved son, brother and grandson. Words are not enough to express how we feel at this time over the tragic death of Callum.

"We ask that we be allowed to grieve at this sad time, but thank all his friends for their kind words and support."

Callum was out with three other friends at the time. He and one of his friends were crossing Stand Lane intending to go into the hotel to ask for directions to a house party in Bury.

His friend had just crossed the road safely when the car collided with Callum and did not stop at the scene.

Callum was treated at the scene by paramedics and rushed to hospital to be treated for a serious head injury, but sadly died a short time later. His family were with him at the time.

Detective Inspector Amber Waywell said: "Callum's mum and grandad, who raised him, are absolutely distraught. They have suffered a terrible tragedy and have lost a son and a grandson in devastating circumstances.

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with them at this time and we have a specially-trained Family Liaison Officer who is supporting Callum's mum and grandad as they try to come to terms with what has happened."
