Heywood Charities Fete Parade

Date published: 01 September 2013

The Heywood Charities fete started in style this afternoon (Sunday 1 September) with a parade through Heywood.

The parade started at Sefton Street and went along Manchester Street and onto Queen's Park Road before heading into Queen's Park.

The theme of the parade this year was past, present and future and included 20 community groups, three floats, two bands, a pipe band and a brass band.

People lined the street and came out of their houses to watch the parade.

Mayor Councillor Peter Rush who walked in the parade said: “It was a mile long. People will be shocked at that. They say we can’t get any more people on but we can.”

George Kinder from the Rotary Club added: “It was fantastic. I heard that all the streets were blocked off and I am pleased with that because it means people had to stop and have a look.”

The parade included classic cars, stilt walkers, dance troupes, brownies, guides, scouts, cubs, Viking re-enactors and lots of people dressed up in costume.

Mayor Rush also awarded the Cherwell Centre as winners of the best float with their monkey inspired float.
