Remembrance Sunday in Wardle

Date published: 10 November 2013

Members of the Wardle community surrounded the Cenotaph to remember the armed forces who have served their country past and present this afternoon (Sunday 10 November).

The service began with a parade from Wardle Village Church to the Cenotaph. The parade was led by Wardle High School Band and included local scout, brownie and rainbow groups.

Mayor Peter Rush attended the service along with Councillor Ashley Dearnley and Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk.

Mayor Rush who also attended services at Rochdale and Heywood said: "It has been an absolutely brilliant day. I am so pleased to have been a part of it and every service has been fantastic. The atmosphere has also been great."

John Timperley who attends the service every year said: "I have been coming every year since the children were little and that is about 18 years now. It is a really nice community event and it is nice to see everyone get involved."

Jim Barton was watching his granddaughter take part in the parade. He said: "I think we would still come if the grandchildren weren't involved."

Jan, whose daughter was involved with the parade travelled from Todmorden for the service. She said: "It is nice to see everyone come out for something like this."

The service was conducted by The Reverend Canon Sharon Jones and included a number of readings and hymns.
