Councillor Lambert makes plea to identify fly tippers

Date published: 04 March 2014

Councillor Colin Lambert has asked for the help of local residents in identifying illegal fly tippers.

Councillor Lambert made the plea at last night's (Monday 4 March) Heywood Township meeting after he came across another load of illegally dumped rubbish.

Councillor Lambert and Councillor Ray Dutton found a pile of fly tipped rubbish on Russell Street, Heywood on Saturday 1 March. The rubbish which includes children’s toys also looks to contain asbestos.

Councillor Lambert said: “Someone is potentially causing a severe concern to public health by dumping this rubbish. This rubbish would have been collected by someone and then dumped illegally. I believe that someone can identify this rubbish and help us find who is responsible for doing this.”

Councillor Lambert is now asking for residents who think that they recognise the rubbish to let the council know so they can find out who is responsible for the fly tipping.

“Somebody can identify this rubbish. If anyone knows of a garage or shed that has been taken down, then you may know who this is. Even if it is your rubbish that has been collected, let us know who has collected it so we can identify them,” added Councillor Lambert.

This latest effort to identify fly tippers comes after Heywood has seen an increase in the illegal dumping of rubbish. Councillor Lambert stated at the township meeting that there have been four incidents of fly tipping in Heywood throughout the last month and they have all come from someone using a low loading van.

Councillor Lambert added: “We will prosecute in every case where we can identify the fly tippers. Somebody must see it. Even if it is at midnight or 3.00am, people will know who have taken their rubbish and we will prosecute those responsible for illegally dumping that rubbish.”
