‘Aid the UK People’ petition

Date published: 28 March 2014

A petition entitled ‘Aid the UK People’ has been started up by Rochdale resident Clive Jones.

The petition, which is for the attention of Prime Minister David Cameron, is asking the Prime Minister to support people in the UK rather than sending money aboard.

In his petition, Mr Jones says: “The government have taken money from the UK poor, disabled, sick, elderly, the unemployed, the poor employed and the NHS. It has given billions in aid across the globe. In 2015 you will ask the public to return you to office. I suggest you get your votes from the aid countries you support around the world. This nation cannot afford your government’s unbalanced economy. The UK sick, elderly, new born, unemployed and the poor deprived families will not tolerate this gross lack of common sense balance and a u-turn is required.”

The petition comes after it was announced that The Department for International Development will receive an increased budget of 31% for
2014/2015.

As part of this budget it is estimated that £446m will be spent in Pakistan alone.

Mr Jones added: “This among other examples demonstrates a lack of care for the billions cut across the UK’s hard pressed population whose money this is.”

It is also understood that a further £390m will be spent in Ethiopia and £305m will be spent in Nigeria. Other countries to benefit from the aid budget include India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

“The Government needs to understand that the public will not tolerate this gross imbalance between a UK reduced standard of living and the deprivation caused including health, unemployment and infrastructure damage among many other issues. We are no longer a world power and delusions of grandeur by government must be addressed,” said Mr Jones.
