A family fun event organised by Leanne McQue has raised £1,834 to help her friend whose son has leukaemia.

The event, which was held on Sunday 6 July at Mayfield Sports Centre, was supported by family and friends and was described by Leanne as “absolutely amazing.”

Leanne said: “It was absolutely amazing. We had a really good day and the event was really well supported.”

On the day the event raised £1,714 with a further £120 being raised via online sponsorship.

Leanne added: “I am really pleased with the total. I wanted to raise at least £1,000 so I am really happy that we managed to almost double that.”

The event included a variety of activities including a bouncy castle, face painting, a cake stall, children’s entertainment, raffles, tombolas and much more.

The money raised will now go to help a friend of Leanne’s whose son has been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. The money will help with every day expenses as Leanne’s friend has had to give up work to care for her son.

“She was extremely overwhelmed by the event and the money raised. I think if she wasn’t crying then I was,” said Leanne. “She really enjoyed the day.”

Leanne is now considering doing more fundraising events. She said: “I have been asked about other events and it is something I might look in to but it is hard work so I think I would have to get more people involved.”

Leanne added: “Please can I say a huge thank you to Katey Turner, Jack Turner, Anita Barr, Jenny Hardman, Danny Reid, Jo Hogan, Kelly O’Conner, Jo Waite, Claire Humphreys, Beth Leach, Dwaine Whelan, Mandy Dunn, Simon Britton, Sweet Treats, Loz Copping, Heather at Dolly P's, Lyndsey and Jess at Tilly Rose Girls Headbands and Accessories, Sonya Walker at Loopy Lou, Kelly from Custard Storm Productions, The Social Leftover and everyone at who made the day possible.

“I would also like to say a special thank you to everyone who donated towards my luxury raffle. There are far too many to name but I can't tell you all how truly grateful I am for all of your help and support.”
