Fay Nicholls wins ‘Brownies Got Talent’

Date published: 17 July 2014

Fay Nicholls, a member of All Souls Brownies, showed she has got talent when she won the ‘Brownies Got Talent’ night. Fay won with her comedy act that had the audience and judges in stitches.

Runners up were Ruby Sidlow and Lilia Yates who did a dance to 'Party in the U.S.A', Olivia Buckley who did a gymnastics routine to ‘Let It Go’ from Disney’s Frozen, Heidi Kelly, Rosie Mallon and Olivia Buckley who did a Cup Song performance.

Girls showcased their talents with acts ranging from singing, dancing, gymnastics to comedy and a clarinet solo. Some girls teamed up to do group performances while others performed solo. The girls prepared their acts at home and then had some rehearsal time at Brownies. Taking part was optional but lots of girls wanted to have a go.

On the official night there was a team of 'celebrity' judges: Julie Holt, Division Commissioner for Girlguiding Heywood, Jean Clegg, Heywood Division Secretary and a member of the Trefoil Guild.

Parents were also invited to enjoy the show.

Brown Owl, Diana Kilduff, was the compere for the event, Tawny Owl, Katie Haigh, was 'the press' and Snowy Owl, Denise Webb, and Young Leader, Hannah, arranged and handed out refreshments for Brownies and guests.

All girls who took part received a special medal engraved with 'All Souls Brownies Got Talent 2014'. All the girls were really supportive of each other and had great fun.

The judges found it difficult to choose a winner because all the girls did an excellent job. Judge Julie Holt said "I had a fantastic night watching all the girl’s performances, it was a shame we had to pick an overall winner because all the girls were so talented. Jean and I both agreed it was much better than anything on T.V. I hope all the girls had as much fun as we had and we look forward to seeing them when they come up to Guides."

Brown Owl Diana Kilduff said: "Well done to all the Brownies who took part in the talent show. You were fantastic. Can't believe how talented our girls are. A special well done to Fay Nicholls, who was the overall winner, and to our runners up too. It was a great night and lots of fun".

Girlguiding gives girls and young women their own space to have fun, be themselves, build brilliant friendships and gain skills.
