Residents warned about potential burglary scam in Littleborough

Date published: 30 July 2014

Residents in Littleborough are putting out a warning in regards to what they believe is an ongoing burglary scam in the area.

Nicholas Baker, who lives on Hare Hill Road, issued the warning on Monday (28 July) morning after he was made wary of an approach by a young man.

He said: “I was woken up at about 12.30am on Sunday (27 July) morning to someone banging on the front room window. When I looked out of the curtains I saw a young lad asking me to let him in because he was being chased by some lads.”

Nicholas thought the plea from the youngster was suspicious because he didn’t look to be in a rush and had a mobile phone in his hand.

He added: “To me, if you were in trouble like that then you would be phoning the police and not banging on random houses and asking to come in.”

Having looked back on the situation, Nicholas believes that the youngster was approaching the house to see if anyone was home.

“In my opinion, I think he was banging on the houses to see if anyone was home and in a way was staking out the houses so he could rob them,” said Nicholas.

It is understood that the approach was made to several other residents that same evening.

Nicholas added: “It had happened to a few other people as well. I just want people to be wary of things going on and just to know that this is happening.”

Police have been made aware of the issue.
