Investigation underway at Parklands House

Date published: 08 August 2014

Rochdale Council has launched a joint investigation with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the Heywood Middleton Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group (HMRCCG) at Parklands House Care Home following a damming report.

The CQC published its report last week which found that the home had failed seven out of 10 key areas required of a care home.

On a surprise inspection at the home, inspectors found that the floors were stained with faeces, employees had not been vetted properly before employment, reasonable steps were not taken to prevent abuse form happening and that there were no fire evacuations in place.

Sheila Downey, Director of Adult Services at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “The council is conducting a thorough investigation into the care and treatment of individual residents wherever we have any cause for concern.

“This is being undertaken with the full co-operation of Parklands and also involves other agencies including Heywood Middleton Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group (HMRCCG) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

“It is usual practice for the Council to carry out such investigations wherever there is cause for concern. These are carried out in line with the Rochdale Borough Safeguarding Adults procedure.

“An investigation does not necessarily mean that abuse has taken place, the purpose is to gather as much information as possible so that a judgement about the care and treatment given to the person can be made.”
