The Growth Project open day

Date published: 16 August 2014

The Growth Project, a partnership between Hourglass and Rochdale and District Mind, held their seventh annual open day on Thursday 14 August to show off what has been developed over the past year.

The open day, which was held at an allotment at Kellett Street, Rochdale, saw over 100 people attend and those involved with the project offered tips on how to grow your own fruit and vegetables as well as the chance to taste the produce and buy home made cakes and jams.

Rochdale Rotary Club taught people how to grow their own produce in a tiny space by using a specially derived system.

The project welcomes anyone from the borough who has metal health issues. Hourglass, a therapeutic horticultural organisation, is involved with the horticultural side of the project with Rochdale and District Mind finding people to take part in the project.

It has been a hectic couple of weeks for the project as last week the group were part of Rochdale in Bloom and were judged for their horticultural excellence by the Royal Horticultural Society. Members of the Growth Project will now be attending an awards ceremony in October and hope to match their success from last year.
