Residents of King Street East got a chance to engage with their local police yesterday (Saturday 16 August) as part of a community engagement day.

Organised by Rochdale Police and resident Shahid Mohammed, the event was a way for the residents to interact with the police as well as giving the younger residents of the area a chance to get to know the police.

Shahid said: “After working closely with the police around some of the trouble we have been having, we wanted to organise an event that would allow the residents and in particular the younger residents to get to know the police.

“This gives the youngster a chance to put a face to the police in the area and lets them learn a bit more about them which is definitely important.”

Held at Rainbow Children’s Park on the street, the event included representatives from the police, the fire service, Link4Life and the Youth Service interacting with the children.

As well as that the police cadets were offering safe plating and cycle safety with the GMP Dixie Jazz Band also performing.

Shahid added: “I am really happy with how today has gone. It has gone really well and it is definitely something we would look at doing again next year and doing it bigger with, hopefully, more organisations.”

Neighbourhood Beat Officer for the area Simon Rogers said: “After working with the community we wanted to do this event to let people know who we are.

“We have been working closely with the residents on a number of issues and we have definitely seen a difference here. Events like this really help us put a face to the police.”
