Fix Auto Rochdale gives students insight into the motor industry

Date published: 20 August 2014

Fix Auto Rochdale gave Year 10 students and their teachers an insight into the automotive industry at an event at Cardinal Langley High School as part of an Information, Advice and Guidance week at the school.

Phil Ewbank, Chairman at Fix Auto Rochdale, approached the opportunity with enthusiasm and inspired the students with what a future in the motor industry could hold.

He said: “We feel the ‘Insight into Industry’ day was of great benefit to us as a business and offered us a clearer understanding of what we can do to ‘sell’ our industry.

“Events like this can help all of us promote the importance of getting students into work, and not just taking the college/university route where students hope for a job at the end of it. I suspect many parents would welcome such initiatives in order to offer some real guidance to their children when choosing their career paths.”

Phil enlisted the assistance of Steve Hough from Power Tec, so the students could be given some hands-on practical demonstrations, and Michelle Walker, who highlighted the various opportunities that are available and the qualifications and skills required.

Jo Manfred, Skills and Participation Development Officer at RMBC, said: “The ‘Insight into Industry’ day at Cardinal Langley was a great success. It gave students the opportunity to gain greater knowledge and understanding on a range of jobs and careers available from local employers.

“Students were engaged and the employer sessions were definitely ‘food for thought’ as they plan the next phase of their education and learning once their GCSEs are complete.”
