Virtually no bus services along Bury Road from 1 September

Date published: 26 August 2014

Rochdale Online reported earlier this month about the bus service changes that would be affecting the Rochdale area from 31 August and 1 September.

Since then, we have been contacted by local residents telling us how the service changes will affect their community.

George Steele, from Rochdale, said: “After looking at the new timetable, I realised that there would be virtually no buses along Bury Road, between the Cemetery Hotel and War Office Road from 1 September.”

“The cuts will affect hundreds of elderly people who live in the area and who rely on the 469 service to get about.”

As reported, the 469 service which comes down Bury Road has been cut dramatically, with only one bus early in the morning and a few late at night.

Instead, the 468 service has been revised to partly replace the cuts to the 469 service. This service will turn at War Office Road, up to Edenfield Road, and then back down Sandy Lane.

“The timetable states that the 468 service will have 7 or 8 buses an hour, with two pairs of buses only 7 minutes apart. This is a lot more than needed,” said George.

“The government are always trying to encourage people out of their cars and onto public transport, so these cuts seem ridiculous.”
