Saving Spodden Valley is just a piece of cake
Date published: 10 June 2008
Members of the Save Spodden Valley group tucked in to a specially commissioned cake as they celebrated the group's fourth birthday.
The sponge creation came complete with an aerial view of the Valley as its icing.
Spotland Area Forum Chairman Roger Chadwick cut the cake alongside campaign supporters, Rochdale councillors and police officers. He said: "We will continue to fight for Rochdale's future health and safety. It won't be a peice of cake, but we must prevail."
Spodden Valley was once home to the world's largest asbestos factory and the group fears that development to the land could disturb large amounts of buried asbestos.
